Introduction to German. Equal emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension, geared to first stage of A1 level of CEFR.

Continuation of GER 101; geared to second and last stage of A1 level of CEFR.
Prerequisite: GER 101 or consent of the instructor

A concentrated beginner’s course covering levels A.1.1 and A.1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Initiating and maintaining basic social interactions such as greetings, farewells, and requesting information. Discussing everyday topics such as family and activities. Reading simple texts such as notices, advertisements, and instructions. Using basic grammatical structures to complete forms and write simple personal communications.
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor.

Continuation of GER 102.  Detailed approach to German grammar and sentence structure; further emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension; geared to the first stage of A2 level of CEFR.
Prerequisite: GER 102 or consent of the instructor

Continuation of GER 201. Detailed approach to German grammar and sentence structure; further emphasis on reading writing, speaking and listening comprehension; geared to second stage of A2 level of CEFR.
Prerequisite: GER 201 or consent of the instructor

Intensive instruction for careful reading of texts and further elaboration of grammatical and syntactical features. Equal emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension; geared to first stage of B1 level of CEFR.
Prerequisite: GER 202 or consent of the instructor

Continuation of GER 301; geared to second stage of B1 level of CEFR.

Continuation of GER 302. Reinforcement of grammatical and syntactical features. Equal emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension. Introduction to literature and cultures of German speaking countries; geared to third and last stage of B1 level of CEFR.

Continuation of GER 403. Reinforcement of grammar and sentence structures with strong emphasis on vocabulary as used in German print media. Geared to first stage of B2 level of CEFR.
Prerequisite: GER 403 or consent of the instructor

Development of B-2 level language skills, including reading and understanding texts such as literary prose and articles on contemporary issues, expressing ideas and opinions on sophisticated topics in both speaking and writing, and following extended spoken discourse such as lectures, TV documentaries, and news reports. Grammar points covered include indirect speech

Translation of texts, selected from various journals, newspapers and works of literature from German into and from Turkish.

Further enchancement of translation of texts on current issues, selected from various magazines, newspapers and works of literature from German into and from Turkish.

Overview of the linguistic, political and cultural history of the German-speaking countries from the Germanic peoples to 1933. Literary texts and authentic historical documents to investigate historical and political events.
Prerequisite: GER 404 or consent of the instructor
